I began my teaching career in Jamaica at age 21, and when I migrated to the United States, I continued the same path.
My Education on this journey includes a Bachelors' Degree in Education from the University of the West Indies, a Masters' in Education from the American InterContinental University
My Education Specialist Degree (Ed.S) in Early Childhood Education from North Central University.
My philosophy "every child can learn" has given me the firm conviction to support the individual needs of every child every day. The knowledge that children learn in different ways and implementing effective strategies and creative ways in my classroom has helped my students grow and succeed in learning and development.
I am also an author of children's books for ages 5 through 8.
"My Animal Alphabet Book And a Note to Parents Who Want Their Children to Succeed" was birthed out of a fundamental need found in the classrooms of our Kindergarten children. Today there is a high expectation of Kindergarteners but many start schools struggling behind their peers because of the lack of Alphabet knowledge.
Quoting from page 14 in the book, "Homes are great places for children to read, write and have fun." Families are the first teachers of their children. A straightforward way to help the child excel in kindergarten is to expose the child to the Alphabet and other learning materials before school. This exposure builds literacy skills and gives the child a strong foundation before school. Children's books, fiction and non-fiction are important for children to read or be read to.
Bridging the Gap- Parents' Guide for Struggling Learners in Elementary Schools is my second book
As a teacher, I have seen first-hand that the struggling learner has become a part of the framework of our education system.
This book offers tips and ideas for parents to use outside of school to help the child progress in learning. Parent involvement is a partnership between the home, the school, and the community. The union of these three essential roles creates balance, security, ensures a better self-image, and encourages learning. In this book, parents can find tips and ideas daily to build language skills, comprehension, and writing. This book also advises parents to read all kinds of children's books to the child to build vocabulary and comprehension skills.
I Love the Trees
The environment has become a hot topic in many communities. So, I wrote I Love the Trees to help children learn about trees and their impact on the environment. Students will also learn how to preserve and protect the environment when they read this book. This children's book has Sight Words and activities for children.
